Radiesse

What it is:

Radiesse is a semi-permanent injectable filler used to improve facial contours, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and facial creases and treat facial wasting in HIV patients. It is made of calcium hydroxylapetite, a natural substance found in teeth and bones, which is suspended in gel to create a long-lasting injectable product that is not readily absorbed by the body.

Who it's for:

For patients who want long-term wrinkle correction and facial contour improvement, Radiesse may be the best option. It lasts longer than both Juvederm and Restylane and although it is not a good choice for lip augmentation, Radiesse is ideal for filling and smoothing the nasolabial folds, marionette lines and forehead and brow creases. Radiesse is also used to restore volume to sunken cheeks and provide non-surgical correction of nasal contours in men and women.

It is not uncommon for Radiesse injections to be combined with other injectable products, such as Botox, or with skin resurfacing treatments like Active FX, Deep FX or a chemical peel.

How it works:

If you and Dr. Wittpenn decide Radiesse is right for you, 1-2 vials of Radiesse will be strategically injected to target your problem areas. Radiesse contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, so aside from icing no other pre-treatment numbing is typically necessary. Cold compresses may be used to reduce swelling after treatment, and it is important to not rub or touch the injection areas unless instructed to do so.

After Radiesse injections, bruising, swelling and minor lumps and bumps may persist for a few days to two weeks.  Your Radiesse results will be immediately visible and will last 12 months or longer depending on the areas injected and the unique rate at which your body absorbs the product. In addition to creating a smoother, more youthful and contoured facial appearance, Radiesse also stimulates the body's natural collagen production process, further improving your skin health and elasticity.
